UPike English Club students attend the Southern Literary Festival

This marked the first time a Kentucky university was represented at the event.  The Southern Literary Festival, now in its 85th year, was founded by the renowned Kentucky-born author Robert Penn Warren. Prestonsburg man charged with meth trafficking

Travis Michael HallPRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Prestonsburg man is facing a long list of charges, including drug trafficking and evidence tampering, following a traffic stop early Thursday morning. A Floyd County deputy spotted an SUV at a home that had been the subject of numerous complaints about drug trafficking, then saw it leave and turn onto Route 80. The deputy pulled the car over and driver, identified as Travis Michael Hall, 42, couldn’t produce proof of registration or insurance. Three arrested for heroin trafficking during traffic stop

Clarence Kilgore, Brooke Scroggins and Anthony KilgoreSHELBIANA, Ky. — Three people were arrested following a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon near Shelbiana. A state trooper pulled over a GMC Sierra for what he said in his report were multiple traffic violations. When he spoke to the driver, identified as Clarence Kilgore, 50, of Ashcamp, he noticed he appeared to be under the influence of something. After showing signs of impairment during a field sobriety test, Kilgore was arrested and the officer searched the vehicle, finding more than 2 grams of heroin, a small amount of meth, more than $4,000 in cash, and various types of drug paraphernalia. East Ridge student killed in crash

ELKHORN CITY, Ky. – A East Ridge High School student is dead, following a crash Friday morning. Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville received a call at 8:33 a.m. reporting a single vehicle collision had occurred on Route 80 in Elkhorn City. A trooper from Post 9 responded and began the investigation. The initial investigation indicated Zena Newsome, 17, of Elkhorn City, was operating a 2010 Jeep Wrangler on Route 80, when she struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn. Ohio man pleads guilty after being found with meth in Pike County

Pierre LidgePIKEVILLE, Ky. — An Ohio man facing federal drug charges after being arrested in Pike County with a large quantity of meth last year has entered a guilty plea in the case. Pierre Lidge, 25. of Akron, Ohio, was arrested June 5, after Kentucky State Police got a tip from Virginia State Police to be on the lookout for him. Virginia had been investigating Lidge for drug trafficking and recorded him earlier that day selling meth to an informant.
